Francisco Alvarez Sets Ambitious Goals for 2025 Mets Season

Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez has outlined his primary goal for the upcoming 2025 season.

“Winning the World Series,” Alvarez emphasized, “is my top priority. It would be an incredible achievement to bring the title home to New York.”

Alvarez shared his optimism from training camp in Port St. Lucie, where the Mets pitchers and catchers began their preparations for the season.

The Mets’ Lineup Ambitions

“I believe we have one of the best lineups in baseball,” Alvarez stated. “We possess a diverse array of talents, including Pete Alonso, who brings power and presence.”

“With hitting power and a versatile approach, we’re prepared to face any opposition and fight for the ultimate prize.”

Alvarez’s initial 2024 season was promising but was cut short due to a left-thumb strain, which sidelined him for nearly two months.

2024 Season Recap

In his season shortened to 342 plate appearances, the 23-year-old managed a .237 batting average with a .710 OPS and hit 11 home runs.

Comparatively, in 2023, Alvarez had hit 25 home runs, highlighting how his abilities can impact the team.

The Impact of Juan Soto’s Addition

The Mets’ lineup received a significant boost with the signing of power hitter Juan Soto.

During the 2024 season, Soto demonstrated his value, hitting .288 with a .989 OPS, and setting career highs with 156 hits, 128 runs scored, and 41 home runs.

Alvarez’s Outlook for 2025

With Soto on board and the rest of the lineup firing on all cylinders, Alvarez sees a golden opportunity for success.

“With Juan Soto joining us, our chemistry will be exceptional, and our offense will be even stronger,” he said. “The World Series is what I’m striving for, and I believe we have the talent to get there.”
