The First Lady of France, Brigitte Macronis being sued by several social organizations, including groups defending the rights of womenafter being filmed calling protesters feminists of “stupid bitches” in a theater show in Paris.

In total, 343 women, led by the group “Les Tricoteuses hystériques” (“The Hysterical Knitters”, in free translation), founded in 2024, during the trial of dozens of men for the rape of Gisele Pelicot, filed a complaint against the French first lady for public defamation.

The offense would have happened last week, on December 7th, and would have been recorded on a video, in which Brigitte Macron was talking backstage at the Folies Bergère theater, in Paris, with Ary Abittan, a French actor and comedian who had already been accused of rape. The night before, feminist activists interrupted the performance shouting: “Abittan, rapist!”

In the recorded conversation, according to The Guardian, Brigitte Macron asked Abittan how he was feeling. When he said he was scared, she referred to the protesters as “stupid bitches” and said that if they reappeared, “we would kick them out.”

The case against Abittan was closed in 2024 due to lack of evidence and, after an appeal, this decision was confirmed in January this year.

In an interview this week with the French portal Brut, Brigitte Macron said she was sorry if she hurt the victims, but did not retract her comment. “I cannot regret it. It is true that I am the wife of the president of the republic, but above all I am myself. And therefore, when I am in private, I can let myself be carried away in a way that is not entirely appropriate.”
