The case surrounding the kidnapping and murder of Rym Fikri’s husband is intensifying with Morocco requesting the extradition of Abdelaziz L. from France. Abdelaziz L. is believed to be the right-hand man of Reda Abakrim, known as “Turbo.” A judicial source, speaking to Media24, stated that “His direct involvement in the kidnapping and the assassination of edit Faras was established during the surveys diligent in Morocco.” However, the extradition request faces potential complications due to Abdelaziz L.’s French nationality.
Omar Mahmoud Bendjelloun,a lawyer at the bars of Rabat and Marseille, explained,”In absolute terms, extradition is a sovereign judicial decision. The territoriality of criminal facts, in addition to the nationality of the alleged, makes this extradition improbable.” Bendjelloun added that the victim’s family retains the right to pursue justice in both France and Morocco, depending on where the crimes fall under territorial jurisdiction.
Reda abakrim, alias “Turbo”, was apprehended as part of the investigation into the kidnapping that occurred on February 8, 2024, when Rym Fikri’s husband was abducted near his Casablanca home by individuals in an all-terrain vehicle. His body was later discovered in a riverbed near Rabat. Abakrim had previously faced similar charges in 2007 but was acquitted. Currently, “Turbo” and several co-accused individuals are being prosecuted in Casablanca on charges including “kidnapping”, “forcible confinement”, “torture” and “homicide with premeditation”.
