For this school year 2025, the Odoxa Survey Institute published a study on the opinion of the French vis-à-vis the economic situation of their country. The least we can say is morality is not good.
Record economic pessimism in 2025
During this back -to -school period, the economic morale of households is at its lowest. 86 % of French people say they are less confident about the economic future of France against only 14 % more confident. According to Odoxa, it is One of the worst levels recorded for 20 years.
This deterioration is linked to the unstable situation of French politics and the possible fall of the Bayrou government. More than two thirds of people (67 %) believe that such a context would be worrying for the French economy, as this could prevent the country from having a budget for the year 2026.
Almost 62 % of respondents even think that this situation could cause A financial crisis in France.
Of the negative perspectives in the coming months
Racing results, the French see The next 12 months as being difficult. Almost 68 % of them believe that economic growth will be lower. This proportion also affirms that their purchasing power is likely to decrease. In addition, more than half of households (59 %) think that The job situation will still deteriorate.
Finally, 48 % of those questioned predict that this political instability will have harmful consequences on their own financial situation.
With a possible drop in purchasing power, everyday costs, such as invoices or mouth costs, can be more complicated to bear for certain budgets.
In some cases, like that of a cumulation of several loans which unbalance a budget, households may use the Return of credits : if it increases the duration of the loan and its total cost, the grouping of credits, however, makes it possible to lower the level of monthly payments.
What solutions are considering the French?
To avoid the worst, those questioned are favorable to certain measures, particularly on the increase in taxes for the richest (78 %for), a reduction in social aid (55 %) or that of the number of civil servants (54 %).
On the other hand, they do not agree on working more (62 % against) nor to a overall tax increase (83 %).
