The 41-year-old former player of the Golden State Warriors, Detroit Pistons and Washington Wizards was convicted of participating in a conspiracy and providing false information about basketball players who submitted false dental and medical claims to the NBA’s player health and benefits welfare plan.

More than 20 persons have been accused in the case, including several former NBA players.

In total, Bynum spent less than eight seasons in the NBA, six seasons representing the “Pistons”, in whose ranks he averaged 10.0 points and 4.5 assists per game in the 2009/2010 season. The former defender ended his NBA career in 2015, having played a total of 360 games in the world’s strongest league, where he averaged 8.1 points and 3.3 assists.

The ruling also requires him to repay $182,000 to the NBA’s players’ health and welfare plan.

According to court documents, Bynum joined several other former NBA players in the fraud scheme from 2018 to 2019, including Terrence Williams and former NBA Players Association vice president Keion Dooling.

Williams and Dooling, who pleaded guilty to the charges, had already been sentenced to 10 years and 30 months in prison, respectively.
