A recent scientific study revealed that simple modifications to the diet can form a strong line of defense against early dementia (a neurological disorder that affects memory and cognitive abilities).
Foods that reduce the incidence of dementia
According to what was published by Times Now News, a new study has found a group of risk factors associated with dementia that can be modified through diet, and experiments indicate improved nutrition and exercise.
Among the most prominent foods are boiled eggs, which have long been associated with high cholesterol, but the study shows that they contain choline, which is important for brain health, and that eating more than one egg per week reduces the risk of dementia by 47%, thanks to choline’s support for the production of the neurotransmitter, which plays a major role in memory and learning.
The large egg also contains 6 grams of protein, which provides the amino acids needed to produce neurotransmitters such as serotonin, which is necessary for cognitive functions and reduce levels of toxic beta-amyloid plaques, a hallmark of Alzheimer’s disease.
The most important foods that contribute to reducing the incidence of dementia are strawberries and blueberries. It is a rich source of antioxidants that protect brain cells from inflammation and oxidative damage.
The study showed that eating a cup of strawberries daily for 12 weeks leads to a clear improvement in memory tests and reduces symptoms of depression.
Dark chocolate is also rich in flavonoids, which have been shown to contribute to improving blood flow to the brain and enhancing cognitive functions, when consumed in moderation.
