Between 2017 and 2024, the quantity of food thrown away in Switzerland decreased by 5%. A figure which is not sufficient with regard to the objective of halving food waste by 2030. A reduction of 25% would have been necessary in 2025.
(Keystone-ATS) The entire chain is therefore lagging behind the objective, noted Tuesday the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW), responsible for monitoring, in an interim report.
In the action plan against food loss adopted in 2022, the Federal Council sets a reduction by half by 2030. The reference year is 2017. To do this, the Confederation has concluded an inter-professional agreement with 35 companies and associations.
At an informal meeting on Tuesday, Federal Councilor Albert Rösti took stock with representatives of the industry. He now wants to analyze the lessons learned from the first phase of the action plan.
