At CES 2026, Samsung Display is showing off a long-pursued innovation: a foldable OLED panel whose fold is not visible. To prove the progress made, the Samsung subsidiary does not hesitate to compare this new panel with that of the Galaxy Z Fold7.
The latest folding smartphone had already made great progress by making the central fold less visible, but the component presented at the American show goes even further. According to a journalist from SamMobile who was able to see it with their own eyes, the new slab “has no visible creases. » The photos also highlight a fairly obvious difference between the screen of the Galaxy Z Fold7, marked with a notable line, and the new generation panel, apparently flawless.
According to information previously reported by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, this OLED panel is combined with a laser-perforated metal plate, supplied by Fine M-Tec. This would distribute the stresses generated when folding the screen, thus making the fold invisible.

The panel presented here is a priori the one that will equip the next Galaxy Z Fold8… and perhaps the iPhone Fold. In September, the Korean subcontractor announced that it would have to supply a large quantity of folding OLED screens to a “North American customer”. If Apple was not explicitly named, there is little doubt that it is indeed her. And according to Ming-Chi Kuo, Samsung Display will not reserve this inapparent fold for Samsung smartphones, Apple could also be served.
Apple and Samsung would erase the fold on their 2026 folding smartphones
