A Collaborative Milestone for 100% Electronica

The electronic music scene is buzzing with the release of Music 2, a collaborative album marking a important milestone for FM Skyline and equip, both prominent figures within the 100% Electronica label. This project represents the first full-length collaboration between the two artists, blending their unique styles into a cohesive and captivating sonic experience.

Shared Passions Fuel Creative Synergy

The genesis of music 2 lies in the artists’ shared gratitude for a range of influences, including 90s video game soundtracks, General MIDI sounds, Japanese AOR (Adult-Oriented Rock), Balearic House, and classic Steamwave aesthetics. This eclectic mix of inspirations forms the foundation of the album’s distinctive sound.

To bring their vision to life, FM skyline journeyed from Richmond, Virginia, to Equip’s home studio in Chicago, Illinois. Armed with a vintage synthesizer, the duo embarked on a collaborative recording process, punctuated by shared meals of pizza, viewings of old CGI laserdiscs, and construction of Gundam plastic models. This immersive and playful environment undoubtedly contributed to the album’s unique character.

The collaborative process was incredibly organic. We spent hours just geeking out over our favorite sounds and textures, and that energy really comes through in the music.

Visual Homage to Gaming Culture

The album’s artwork serves as a visual tribute to classic video game packaging. The cover features a collaborative effort between Keith Rankin and Ellen Thomas, who created clay modeling and digital designs, further enhanced by diorama photography and additional digital design work by FM Skyline and Equip. This meticulous attention to detail extends beyond the music itself, creating a holistic artistic experience.
