Dr. Amr Kandil, Deputy Minister of Health and Population, stressed the importance of adhering to preventive measures to confront respiratory viruses. Anyone suffering from respiratory symptoms such as a cold or high temperature must stay at home to avoid transmitting the infection, while wearing a mask when needed and washing hands constantly.

The seasonal influenza vaccine is available at the Ministry for citizens at a lower price than the private sector

Dr. Amr Kandil explained, during his interview with the “Medical Files” program, that good ventilation of closed spaces and adherence to doctors’ instructions are basic measures to prevent complications.

He also gave special advice to the elderly and those suffering from chronic diseases, such as heart and respiratory diseases, to obtain the annual influenza vaccine, explaining that the vaccine is available in all health offices free of charge to the medical team, and at a lower price in the private sector for citizens.

The Deputy Minister indicated that these measures and vaccines aim to preserve the health of citizens during the winter season, which usually witnesses an increase in the activity of respiratory viruses, stressing that the current situation is under control and there are no new mutations that threaten public health.

Earlier, the Ministry of Health and Population organized a dialogue session entitled “Words and Deeds: Implementing the World Health Assembly Resolution on Lung Health,” within the third edition of the World Conference on Population, Health and Human Development (PHDC’25), under the patronage of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, with the slogan “Empowering Individuals, Promoting Progress, Providing Opportunities,” in the New Administrative Capital (November 12-15, 2025).

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman, confirmed that the session focused on the impact of human factors on lung diseases, and the steps to implement the decision of the 78th session of the World Health Assembly globally, while reviewing the best practices for caring for patients physically, psychologically, and socially.

She reviewed the Ministry’s plan for early detection, including the Presidential Lung Cancer Initiative, providing more than 300 CT scan machines and 1,200 X-ray machines, with specialized training for doctors and technicians, and linking hospitals to the PACS system to collect data centrally.
