Three tourists were fatally shot while outside their Florida rental home, reportedly by a neighbor who was previously found not guilty of attempted murder by reason of insanity, authorities said.
The victims, two brothers and a friend, were in Central Florida attending Mecum Car Show, billed as the world’s largest collector car auction. The men were scheduled to leave the Kissimmee rental home Friday, but their departure was delayed because of rental car trouble.
They were outside the home shortly after noon Saturday when the man living in the home next door, Ahmad Jihad Bojeh, 29, shot the men, according to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Department. They were identified as brothers Robert Luis Kraft, 70, of Holland, Michigan, and Douglas Joseph Kraft, 68, of Columbus, Ohio, and their friend James Puchan, 69, of Columbus.
“We lost three people, which is sad because it’s three tourists that come here to visit our area,” Osceola County Sheriff Chris Blackmon said during a news conference. “It’s cold-blooded. It was premeditated. There was absolutely no issues. There was no conflict between these people. This was random, and this happened to be the person that lived next door.”
Douglas Kraft’s twin brother, also had been at the home, but left Friday.
Suspect in killing of three Florida tourists previously charged with attempted murder
Back in 2021 Bojeh was charged with attempted murder after he randomly shot into cars at a Kissimmee gas station. He was later acquitted by reason of insanity.
Regarding the latest incident, authorities were called the Kissimmee rental home Jan. 17 after receiving several calls about gunshots in the area.
When deputies arrived, the victims were found outside with gunshot wounds. The suspect, described by Blackmon as a “frequent flyer” and “known person,” was found inside his home next door. He was being held without bond at the Osceola County Jail and is expected to face three counts of first-degree murder.
Three tourists fatally shot in Florida remembered by families
Families of the victims released a joint statement remembering the “beloved husbands, fathers, grandfathers, uncles, brothers, and friends.”
The statement said before the shooting the men were being observed from a distance by a stranger, but there was no interaction between the victims and suspect.
“These three wonderful men did not deserve this,” according to the statement. “Our families are left with an unexpected, unimaginable loss that cannot be put into words. We ask for privacy, prayers, and respect as we mourn and begin to process this tragedy.”
