The state of Florida got to work and has already begun with the construction of its new and dreaded jail for irregular migrants known as “Aligator Alcatraz” (Alcatraz de Cocodrilos), referring to the extinct federal prison of the Alcatraz Island in San Francisco.
Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier published the proposal for the construction of a detention center for migrants in the middle of the Everglades area, known for their swamps, wet land and variety of wild animals.
The place is located in a wetland reserve in the south of the state of Florida. In the area there are a variety of mangroves and forests that are the place of multiple species, including falling.
“It is an abandoned airport that is in the middle of the Everglades (…). I think it’s the best place”said the prosecutor.
The future detention center, according to the American press, includes a land of 78 square kilometers in Miami-Dade County, which has been used for military and police training.
“We work in profitable and innovative ways to comply with the mandate of the American people to make mass deportations. Aligator Alcatraz will expand its facilities and squares in just a few days, thanks to our collaboration with Florida,” said the Department of National Security.
In images disseminated by local media, workers, cranes and cage structures are seen in an extensive concrete plain.
