Florent Pagny‘s Resilient Return: “Still loving You” Signals New Chapter After Cancer Battle

A Song of Hope and Resilience

Florent Pagny, the celebrated french singer, has made a powerful comeback with his new single, “Still Loving You.” Released on Friday, May 2nd, this marks his first original song as his brave fight against lung cancer. the track, penned by fellow artist Vianney, is a testament to Pagny’s enduring spirit and love for life.

Vianney’s Gift: A Song Two Years in the Making

The collaboration between Pagny and Vianney adds another layer of significance to the song. Vianney, who previously opened for Pagny early in his career, offered him “Still Loving You” two years ago, during Pagny’s cancer treatment. At the time, Pagny felt it wasn’t the right moment to release the song, but recognized its profound message. As Pagny told RTL, the song arrived at a pivotal moment, carrying a message that resonated deeply with his experience, yet held universal appeal.

She arrived on January 12, 2023. I am right in the story (from my cancer). I say, ‘good, listen, you sent me a magnificent song, a magnificent message that concerns me, but which can concern a lot of people’. However,I will not sing it right away. So, we will wait a bit and I will see when I want to go back.
Florent Pagny, RTL Interview

This isn’t the first time the two artists have been linked. They previously collaborated on a cover of Jacques Brel’s “Vesoul.” Vianney also co-wrote “Encore,” a song Pagny recorded with Kendji Girac in 2022.

More Than Just a Song: A declaration of Love and Life

“Still Loving You” is more than just a song; it’s a declaration of love for life, a testament to optimism, and a heartfelt message to Pagny’s wife, Azucena. The lyrics speak of embracing both the joys and sorrows of life, a sentiment that resonates deeply given Pagny’s recent health challenges. The song hints at a forthcoming 21st studio album, expected later this year, marking 35 years since his debut album, “Merci.”

I want tears and pain, I want doubts, I want to live again.
Florent Pagny, “Still Loving You”

The lyrics continue, expressing a desire to experience the full spectrum of human emotion and connection:

I want ugliness and forgetting / I want to tremble, I want to be able to sing anymore / I still have so much to say / so many gestures to make you smile / I want you again / that she is waiting, death.

looking Ahead: A Tour and Continued Resilience

The release of “Still Loving You” is accompanied by a simple yet powerful music video, featuring Pagny in a reflective setting. The video’s focus on the lyrics underscores the song’s message of resilience and hope.

Pagny’s journey continues with a planned tour starting January 28, 2026, celebrating his 65th birthday. The tour includes a significant residency at the Olympia in Paris, with twenty performances scheduled between June 16 and July 19, 2026. This tour marks a significant milestone, as Pagny was unable to celebrate his 60th birthday on stage due to his health.

Vianney’s ability to capture and express the emotions of others is once again on display, reminiscent of his work with Kendji Girac following Girac’s firearm injury. “Still Loving You” is a testament to the power of music to heal and inspire.

I want to love you again, I want to give much more than what I have received.
Florent Pagny, “Still Loving You”

The song concludes with a powerful affirmation of commitment and strength:

And I stay there, yes I stay there / My hands do not tremble / I stay there for you.
