On September 19th (US time), Mozilla released the latest version of Firefox for desktops v142.0 on its release channel.
The new features in the major upgrade, Firefox 142, are as follows: However, some features are part of the progressive rollout. Please note that the range of availability will be gradually expanded from some environments, so even if you update to Firefox 142, it will not necessarily be possible to use it immediately.

In addition, it supports the “wllama” API for extensions. Developers can now integrate AI capabilities that utilize local large-scale language models (LLM) directly into add-ons.
Security-related fixes
There are nine security-related fixes. The breakdown of the severity ratings is 5 out of 4, the second out of 4 results in “High”, the third “Moderate”, and the lowest “Low” is 3. It is designed to prevent crashes and memory corruption that can be exploited in attacks, so we recommend updating as soon as possible. Security corrections have also been made in the extended support versions of Firefox ESR and Thunderbird for businesses, so if you are using it, you should be sure to update it.
