At the annual service meeting, local fire chief Heiner Thamm also reported on this operation. It was the only accident to which the Basser Wehr was alerted. In total, she deployed 14 times and five missions were canceled. The focus was on site hygiene, for which the Bassers are specialized. “A special milestone,” says Thamm, was the commissioning of the new hygiene trailer with toilet and shower. This was delivered at the end of the year and is now “armed” for the entire city area. It enables the comrades deployed in the interior attack to take off their contaminated operational clothing directly at the deployment site and clean themselves. They are then provided with fresh clothing in the form of jogging suits. “In this way, the fire brigade makes an important contribution to protecting the health of the emergency services,” emphasized Thamm.
In total, members of the fire department provided 2,117 hours of voluntary work last year. For the first time, the armed forces organized a blood donation event with the Red Cross; after a successful start, the campaign will be repeated in April and August. From the local fire chief’s point of view, the resumption of the children’s fire department, which started again in May with five members, was pleasing. In addition to 39 active members, Thamm can report eight youth firefighters, 21 members of the age group and numerous sponsors.
Numerous promotions were also announced at the meeting. Ina Sundmacher is now the first chief fire extinguisher, Esther Meyer is the fire extinguisher. Daniel Ahrens was promoted to first chief firefighter, Alexej Rust to senior firefighter and Jürgen Sundmacher and Paul Suhr to firefighters. Leon Weiss was taken on active duty from the youth fire department.
For many years of loyalty and commitment, Michael Langreder was honored for 25 years of fire service. In addition, 29 comrades received the badge of honor for their efforts during the 23/24 flood.■
