[TV리포트=강지호 기자] The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has released a cultural policy blueprint centered on expanding K-pop performance infrastructure and recovering the stagnant film industry.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced its implementation plan, which includes the creation of a large-scale performance hall, support measures for the film industry, and measures to promote K-culture based on cultural heritage, in a presidential work report held at the Government Sejong Convention Center in Sejong City on the 16th.

Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Choi Hwi-young said, “We will strengthen our global expansion strategy to further solidify K-pop’s global status,” and announced that they will work to resolve the problem of lack of performance venues. To this end, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism plans to promote a step-by-step plan to expand performance venues.

In the short term, we will consider using local sports facilities as performance venues starting next year. Minister Choi explained, “If the sound and lighting equipment of the sports facility is improved, it can be fully utilized as a performance venue,” and “In the mid-term, we will utilize the sports fund support so that the construction of performance venues being promoted by local governments, such as the Seoul Arena and Goyang Arena, can proceed without a hitch.”

As a long-term task, the construction of a large dome performance hall that can accommodate more than 50,000 people was also proposed. Minister Choi emphasized, “Unlike Japan, which uses sports domes for performances, we are planning a dome stadium that takes both sports and performances into consideration from the beginning.”

Support measures to revitalize the film industry were also announced. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is planning to recover from the decline in theater attendance by introducing a ‘subscription movie pass system’ along with the ‘rediscovery of theater value project’.

In addition, a ‘K-Culture Promotion Plan’ utilizing cultural heritage was also revealed. Minister Choi said, “We will improve the viewing environment by expanding the National Museum of Korea and make it one of the world’s top three museums,” and added, “We will also launch the ‘Digital Oegyujanggak’ project to systematically preserve digital assets.”

In addition, a policy to expand support for the basic arts field was also included. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism plans to strengthen welfare and livelihood support for artists, while expanding support for the creation of basic arts such as literature, theater, and fine arts.

In addition, in order to bridge the cultural gap between regions, they also announced plans to continue policy support so that large-scale exhibitions such as K-pop idol performances and ‘Silla Brass Exhibition‘ can be held more frequently in local areas.
