Malvica’s Journey to the Met

Joana Malvica’s path to the Metropolitan Opera is paved with extraordinary achievements. Early in her career (2012-2013), she tackled Wagner’s monumental Ring Cycle (Rhinegold and Die Walküre) and Mozart’s Don Giovanni at the Latvian National opera. She also honed her skills with the Kremerata Baltica chamber orchestra in Latvia. Currently, she serves as the musical director of the Berlin Konzerthausorchester, following tenures at the Erfurt Theater and the Nuremberg State Theater.

Her international breakthrough came during the challenging pandemic era with a critically acclaimed production of Mozart’s Così fan tutte at the 2020 Salzburg Festival. She subsequently conducted Mozart’s The Magic Flute in Salzburg, leading the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra for both performances. This March, she made her debut with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, solidifying her position as a leading conductor of her generation.
