Campania Center-Left Candidate Calls for Action on Rural Depopulation

Candidate ROBERTO FICO highlights public health, transport, and employment as key issues, emphasizing the need to address depopulation in Campania’s internal areas.

During the Avanti Feast in BOLOGNA, ROBERTO FICO, a candidate for president for the center-left in campania, stressed the importance of tackling depopulation in the region’s internal areas. In a video address, FICO stated that he and Enzo Maraio had discussed various issues, including public health, transport, and employment, but that special attention should be paid to the dwindling populations in thes areas.

Maraio, National Secretary of PSI, responded positively, saying: «Roberto Fico‘s reference to the theme of depopulation of the internal areas is a music for our ears. It is time for this theme to become a political priority and not just a residual chapter in electoral programs ».

Maraio believes that “the internal areas are not marginal lands, but strategic spaces where part of the future of Campania is played. Thay are caskets of identity, culture, natural resources, ancient knowledge and silent innovation, they are spaces of tourism to be enhanced in large circuits. They are territories where the link between citizens and institutions can be mended precisely through a new democratic and participatory centrality. This is why it will be our intention to launch a clear appeal: a pact for internal areas is needed,a concrete alliance between the region, mayors, local authorities, social forces, universities and businesses “.

Salvatore Micillo, regional coordinator M5s Campania, announced the party’s support: «In Campania the 5 Star Movement is ready for Roberto Fico President. Until September 23, all members of the 5 Star Movement can advance their self -authorization. Our program, which we will bring to the table with the other political forces, is the result of the many contributions collected in the 5 days of the provincials, and continues to be enriched in the constant confrontation with the territories. The road is traced. And as always, we will travel together ».
