Fiat is banking on nostalgia with the revival of the Panda, now known as the Grande Panda. Amidst a wave of retro revivals, the Grande Panda joins the ranks of the Ford Capri and Renault 5, tapping into a collective yearning for the aesthetics and sensibilities of the past.
The Grande Panda’s design successfully captures the essence of the original Panda while incorporating modern elements such as LED lighting and touchscreen interfaces.
Design and Interior
While maintaining the affordability of a small car, the Grande Panda’s interior boasts personality and thoughtful touches. The Bambox dashboard, crafted partially from recycled bamboo, adds a unique element to the cabin.
Driving Experiance and Performance
The Grande Panda offers a driving experience reminiscent of the original, with light steering and a comfortable ride. The hybrid version features a 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine paired with a 48-volt battery pack and a 29hp electric motor, delivering a combined output of 108bhp and 205Nm of torque. The 0-100km/h acceleration time is 9.8 seconds.
Spacious Interior and Practicality
Despite its supermini classification, the Grande Panda offers a surprisingly spacious interior. The hybrid version provides 412 litres of boot space, expanding to 1,666 litres with the rear seats folded down.
Global Ambitions and Future Variants
The Grande Panda is poised to be a global model,sold in over 60 countries.Fiat boss OLIVIER FRANÇOIS acknowledges the need for high sales volumes in the competitive small car market. The upcoming 4×4 version, with an “electrified innovative rear axle,” aims to build on the legacy of the original Panda 4×4.
Pricing and Market Expectations
While Irish prices are yet to be confirmed, the Grande panda hybrid is expected to be a volume seller, despite the growing interest in fully electric vehicles.
