Feijóo vs Junts: Sánchez Deal ‘Prolongs Agony

by Archynetys World Desk

Since Pedro Sanchez was again sworn in, in November 2023, the leader of the opposition, and weeks before candidate for the Presidency, Alberto Núñez Feijóohas repeated on every occasion he has had that the legislature should never have started. For this reason, the popular leader has once again warned Junts that the “time” that Sánchez is asking for now will only serve to “prolong the agony” of his mandate and his Government.

He does so one day after the threat of the post-convergent spokesperson, Miriam Nogueras, to the President of the Government himself, who was urged to “start talking about change time” because “the gum has been stretched to the end.” An order to which Sánchez responded this Thursday by saying that there are agreements that do not only depend on their votes and that, in any case, “there may be changes to advance or changes to regress”.

But, according to Feijóo, since Sánchez “lost the elections in July 2023, he has had no other objective than to be president at any price: he has been paying for it with the sovereignty of the country, with the Penal Code, or by being denounced before the Court of Justice of the EU.” For this reason, in the eyes of the popular leader, the “agony” of the Government has gone growing up since the investiture of the socialist.

For this reason, he sees it as “very difficult for Sánchez to convey peace of mind to his partners”, given the “uneasiness” caused by the president’s “judicial agenda” and the absence of a General State Budget for 2026. “And the reality is that I have to confirm that This Government is a cocktail of corruption, sectarianism and irresponsibility that is leading Spain to irrelevance and international isolation,” he stated at a press conference after attending the EPP summit in Brussels.

From there he has denounced the “real discredit” that the president would be bringing to Spain, as a consequence of the “attacks on the rule of law, judicial independence and freedom of the press.” Also, he has accused Sánchez of going the opposite way to that of the Europeans. “While Europe unites to support Ukraine, Sánchez’s Government continues to be supported by pro-Putin and anti-NATO parties” and is “absent” in community support for Ukraine,” says Feijóo, for whom Spain is losing “in spades the international prominence that had been harvested in recent decades.

Likewise, he took advantage of the meeting with the PPE to present his immigration plan and, as he explained, “is aligned” with the rest of Europe. This is what the Migration Commissioner would have conveyed to him, who would also see “the double visa proposed by the PP, by points and temporary,” as “very interesting,” as Feijóo pointed out to the media.
