In Mollis (GL), the seven sawdust circles were set up on Monday to host the federal Swiss wrestling party and Alpestres Games. The 37 tonnes of material were transported by helicopter to preserve an intact a lawn cultivated for the occasion.
(Keystone-ATS) Three flight phases were necessary to transport tons of sawdust wrapped in huge tarpaulins to the glarnerland arena. Usually the sawdust is transported by trucks.
However, the lawn of the Swiss wrestling arena is also at the heart of the event: since it was strewn last fall, it is strictly forbidden to trample it, a spokesperson for the FFLS in Keystone-Ats told. Trucks would leave indelible traces.
Transport by helicopter to the aerodrome land where the event will take place at the end of August is also less expensive and more efficient. As for the sawdust produced locally, it will be transformed once the party is finished in particle board and wood pellets.
