The National Institute of Statistics (INE) reported moments ago that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) February had no monthly variation, which leaves annual inflation at 2.4% for twelve months, and with a cumulative 0.4% so far this year.
Six of the thirteen divisions of the CPI basket contributed positive incidents in the monthly CPI, and seven had negative incidences.
Among those that had monthly increases, it stood out clothing and footwear (2.3%) with 0.056 percentage points (pp.) along with food and non-alcoholic beverages (0.2%) with 0.040pp. The rest of the positive divisions contributed 0.088 pp. on the whole.
“Of the divisions that recorded monthly decreases in their prices, it stood out housing and basic services (-0.4%), with an incidence of -0.081pp.”, indicated the INE in its statement.
February CPI was 0.0% in the month
In the detailed analysis by division, clothing and footwear added increases in three of its four classes, the most notable being clothing (3.2%, 0.046 pp.), while footwear had a variation of 1.0% and contributed 0.009 pp.
Of the 23 products in its basket, 19 rose, highlighting pants, skirts and dresses for women (6.6%, 0.013 pp.), along with shirts and t-shirts for men (3.2%, 0.006 pp.). The rest of the products contributed positive impacts of 0.045 pp.
“Food and non-alcoholic beverages recorded monthly increases in eight of its 15 classes. The most important was meat (0.9%), which contributed 0.046pp., followed by bottled water (3.3%), with 0.011pp. Of the 81 products that make up the division, 49 recorded increases in their prices, highlighting beef (1.5%), with an incidence of 0.035pp., followed by seasonal vegetables (4.5%), with 0.017pp.”, the report stated.
In this case, the remaining products contributed 0.159 pp.
And in the case of housing and basic services, there were falls in three of its ten classes; the most important being electricity supply (-1.7%, -0.059 pp.), followed by common expenses (-2.7%, -0.040 pp.). Of the 15 products, five had price drops.
Regarding the latter, electricity supply and common expenses registered -1.7% (-0.059pp.) and -2.7% (-0.040pp.) respectively. The other products contributed with -0.024 pp.

Intercity bus transportation
It had a monthly increase of 18.5%, contributing 0.060pp. to the variation of the general indicator and accumulated 22.7% in the second month of the year.
beef
It recorded a monthly increase of 1.5%, with an incidence of 0.035pp., and an accumulated variation of 2.0% in the year.
Rent
It registered a monthly increase of 0.5%, with 0.034pp., accumulating 0.5% during the year.
National air transport
It recorded a monthly decrease of 22.4%, with -0.070pp., accumulating -24.0% so far in 2026.
Electricity supply
It reported a fall of 1.7% in February, with an incidence of -0.059pp., registering a variation of -1.9% during the year.
Common expenses
It registered a monthly decrease of 2.7%, with -0.040pp., accumulating 1.7% during the year.
