February 2026: Solar Eclipse & Meteor Showers – Astronomical Events

by Archynetys Health Desk

YOGYAKARTA – Throughout February 2026, the night sky will be filled with variety astronomical phenomena which is interesting to watch. Several astronomical phenomena in 2026 that are predicted to decorate Earth’s sky include a snow moon, meteor shower, annular solar eclipse, and a parade of planets.

Interestingly, some of these astronomical phenomena can be witnessed directly with the naked eye, as long as the sky is clear and not covered by clouds.

Astronomical Phenomenon February 2026

Plating pages In The Skyhere is a list of astronomical phenomena that will decorate the Earth’s sky throughout February 2026:

  1. Snow Moon

In early February 2026, the sky will present a view of the full moon snow moon aka full moon salu. This astronomical phenomenon occurs when the planet Earth is directly between the Sun and the Moon. This presence makes one side of the Moon facing the Earth shine under the sun.

February’s full moon is also known as the Snow Moon. This refers to the amount of snow that falls in the midwinter months.

The full moon phase is expected to occur on February 2 2026. In this phase, the entire surface of the Moon facing Earth will appear bright so it is suitable to be observed after the sun sets until it rises again.

  1. Alpha Centaurid Meteor Shower

The next astronomical phenomenon in 2026 is the Alpha Centaurid meteor shower. This phenomenon is expected to reach its peak on February 8. In its peak phase, this meteor shower can produce around six meteors per hour.

Alpha Centaurid meteors originate from the constellation Centaurus and can generally be observed in regions of the Southern Hemisphere such as Australia, New Zealand and most of South America.

This phenomenon occurs when the earth passes through the remains of comet material or other celestial bodies on its journey around the sun.

  1. Annular Solar Eclipse

One of the most awaited celestial phenomena is solar eclipse ring which occurred on February 17, 2026. This eclipse takes place when the moon is between the sun and the earth, covering most of the sun’s surface.

In this event, the moon is estimated to cover about 92 percent of the sun, with the ring phase lasting about two minutes and 19 seconds.

However, unfortunately this annular solar eclipse cannot be observed from Indonesia and is only visible in the Antarctic region and parts of South America and South Africa.

  1. Parade Enam Planet

On February 28, 2026, six planets will appear in a row in the sky, creating a stunning planetary parade phenomenon. These planets are Mercury, Venus, Saturn, Jupiter, Uranus and Neptune.

Mercury, Venus and Saturn will appear close together in the southern sky, while Jupiter will appear to shine brightly near the moon. However, Uranus and Neptune require the help of a telescope or binoculars because their light is relatively dim.

In astronomy, this phenomenon is called a term planetary aligngment aka planetary conjugation. The planetary parade phenomenon occurs due to differences in the orbital speed of each planet as it orbits the Sun.
