(youtube.com, Tanjev Schultz & Markus Wolsiffer, Video: 40:44 Minuten)
In “Die Medienverssteher” the media scientist Tanjev Schultz and the journalist Markus Wolsiffer discuss the ethical dilemma of whether and when the origin of criminals should be mentioned in reporting. The Cologne New Year’s Eve 2015/16 marked a turning point that led to a weakening of the press code. As a result, mentioning nationality became an unquestioned routine in many editorial offices and also in police reports.
2. Why is sports journalism still firmly in the hands of men?
(uebermedien.de, Holger Klein, audio: 22:18 minutes)
In the “Übermedien” podcast, Holger Klein asks sports journalist Nora Hespers why the sports department remains a male domain despite the increased visibility of women on TV. The proportion of women in the industry is only ten to 15 percent, and female managers and commentators are still the exception. “Although more women are coming into sports journalism, there is still a lot of work to be done,” Hesper concluded.
3. Is there a new “Spotify for publishers” coming?
(youtube.com, Christian Jakubetz, video: 24:08 minutes)
Christian Jakubetz talks to Swantje Dake, former digital editor-in-chief of the “Stuttgarter Zeitung” and “Stuttgarter Nachrichten”, about their new start-up called “Unlock”. This is a platform based on the “Spotify principle”, which is intended to give users access to paid articles from various publishers for a monthly fee (planned to be around 15 euros). Dake is confident that this model will now work, as paid content is now established and publishers are under greater pressure to digitize.

4. The crisis of music journalism
(deutschlandfunk.de, Mike Herbstreuth, audio: 27:37 minutes)
Listeners regularly have their say on Deutschlandfunk. Sometimes they even come up with the idea for an entire program and exchange ideas with experts. This episode of the podcast “After editorial deadline” is about the precarious working conditions in pop journalism. Deutschlandfunk listener Luise Herzog discusses this with Ruben Jonas Schnell from the internet radio station ByteFM and Thomas Venker from “Kaput”, the “Magazine for Insolvency & Pop”.
5. When the Bushman’s bell rings twice (with @AnwaltJun)
(youtube.com, Gavin Karlmeier, Video: 1:05:25 Stunden)
Gavin Karlmeier and lawyer Chan-jo Jun discuss Elon Musk’s alleged strategy to generate attention through controversial AI content from “Grok”. They also discuss the legal disappearance of the so-called provider privilege, which means that platforms will have to be liable more quickly and more directly for data protection violations and AI risks in the future. Finally, Jun reports that an interim injunction was successfully served on X (formerly Twitter) after previous attempts at delivery had failed.
6. Marietta Slomka – 2 + 2 = 4
(hr2.de, Jagoda Marinić, Audio: 1:12:33 Stunden)
On “Freiheit Deluxe” Jagoda Marinić talks to ZDF presenter Marietta Slomka about the development of the media world in the past decades. News production is more complex today and fact checks are increasingly reaching their limits. Slomka also explains how she professionally distances herself from the flood of bad news in order to maintain her personal confidence for the challenging year 2026.
