FDA Investigates COVID Vaccine Deaths | Updates & Safety

The U.S. health agency is investigating deaths that may be linked to COVID-19 vaccines across multiple age groups. This is part of a security review, as a spokesman for the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced on Tuesday.

The HHS did not initially specify which age groups would be included in the FDA’s investigation.

The head of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Marty Makary, had previously stated that such deaths were being investigated, particularly among young people.

Last month, the agency’s chief medical and scientific officer, Vinay Prasad, said in a memo to staff that COVID vaccinations likely contributed to the deaths of at least 10 children who died of myocarditis.

Moderna reiterated its previous statement that there are no new or undisclosed safety concerns in children or pregnant women associated with the mRNA-based COVID vaccine Spikevax.

Pfizer, which is selling another mRNA-based COVID vaccine together with BioNTech, also once again confirmed the safety and effectiveness of its vaccine.
