Incident in the game against Frankfurt
Fan fell from upper tier? 1. FC Cologne corrects false report

Aside from 1. FC Cologne’s defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt, the fans are on fire. There is also confusion about emergency medical services.
From then on, the Eintracht supporters even fanned this fire at the foot of the guest block in the north of the Müngersdorf stadium and threw more objects into the flames. Finally, rescue workers had to arrive so that the flames could not spread. A meter-high column of smoke rose before the fire finally died down.
However, the rescue workers had already been deployed in the guest block. Shortly before the end of the game, one of the two Cologne stadium announcers announced a medical emergency in the upper tier of the away area. The TV channel Sky then incorrectly said that a fan had fallen from the upper tier to the lower tier. However, this report later turned out to be false.
As 1. FC Cologne emphasized afterwards, there was an emergency and paramedic deployment in the upper echelon, and one person received medical care. But no fan fell from the upper tier to the lower tier. The club did not disclose medical details or further background to the emergency.
In general, the fans were the focus on Saturday evening in Cologne. The protests against the interior minister’s plans for greater control of fans in football stadiums also led to a twelve-minute silence in the stands at the RheinEnergieStadion. However, this also leads to later escalation.
The Frankfurt supporters exaggerated the protest by firing fireworks towards the field several times during the game. Above all, they increasingly threw firecrackers, which – unlike pyrotechnic flares – produce deafening booming noises that can have health-endangering consequences. The FC supporters also repeatedly set off pyrotechnics.
So the sporting events temporarily took a back seat. And that despite the fact that seven goals were scored and 1. FC Köln almost equalized thanks to a strong final phase. But despite a 1-0 lead and after a temporary 1-4 deficit, in the end it was only enough to score the next goal. After 90 hard-fought minutes in temperatures around freezing point, the score was finally 3:4.
