The anger does not abate. This Saturday, around a hundred farmers demonstrated in Toulouse at the call of the Young Farmers unions, the FDSEA, the Rural Coordination and the Peasant Confederation. The goal: to denounce the slaughter of cows affected by contagious lumpy skin disease, reports The Parisian. The participants were equipped with 106 wooden crosses, symbolizing the number of animals slaughtered in Haute-Garonne.
A knee on the ground in honor of the beasts
The group first marched in front of the Palace of Justice then to the Place du Capitole to end their march in front of the regional prefecture. On site, the farmers sang the Marseillaise and knelt on the ground to perform a minute of silence in tribute to the animals killed.
Luc Mesbah, secretary general of FDSEA 31, spoke of a “strong historic inter-union mobilization” with the Parisian. “We are destroying 30 to 40 years of work by breeders who develop our territories. This must stop and, above all, the government must listen to us. There is general fed up with the Mercosur agreements, the carbon tax on fertilizers”he adds.
Mobilization should continue in the region. The A64 motorway is still blocked at the Carbonne exit. The Gers Rural Coordination is also planning a blockade in Toulouse on January 7.
