alue Dohong Appointed FAO Assistant Director-General for Asia and the Pacific

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations welcomes Alue Dohong to a key leadership role.


Alue Dohong has been appointed as Assistant Director-general and FAO Regional Representative for Asia and the Pacific, effective May 15, 2025. The appointment was made by QU Dongyu, the director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

Dohong, an Indonesian national, brings considerable expertise in environmental management and sustainable growth to this position. his responsibilities will encompass overseeing FAO initiatives and partnerships across the Asia-Pacific region.

Prior to this appointment, Alue Dohong served as Senior Advisor to the Minister for Environment and Head of the Indonesian Environment Control Agency, a role he held since December 2024. From 2019 to 2024, he was the Deputy Minister of Environment and Forestry.

According to an official release, Dohong’s professional journey began in 1994 as a Lecturer Staff at the University of Palangka raya, Indonesia. His academic and research activities focused on peatland restoration,environmental management,and sustainable development within the Master’s Program in Natural resources and Environment.

From 2003 to 2011, Dohong was the Kalimantan Site Coordinator for the Wetlands International-Indonesia Programme in Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan. He later served as an Expert with the Central Kalimantan REDD+ Liaison Office from 2011 to 2013. His experience also includes serving as Deputy head for Construction, Operation, and Maintenance (COM) at the Peatland Restoration Agency (BRG) in Indonesia, from 2016 until 2019.

Educational Background

Alue Dohong holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Environmental Management from the University of Queensland, Australia. he also earned a Master of Science in Environmental Management from the School of geography at the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom, and a Bachelor of Science in Economic Development from Palangka Raya University, indonesia.
