The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a Notice alerting air operators about a “potentially dangerous situation” in the airspace of Puerto Rico.
The notice, published on Tuesday, notes that US Army military operations have increased in the area, so pilots are advised to exercise maximum caution.
“Operators are advised to exercise extreme caution when flying in the San Juan flight region“, indicates the report available on the official FAA portal.
The announcement, however, does not offer details about the exercises being carried out on the island.
However, it coincides with the increase in military deployment in Puerto Rico since the US president, Donald J. Trumplaunched his anti-drug campaign and mobilized forces to the island. The United States has carried out multiple attacks on vessels in the Caribbean that authorities say were transporting drugs into the country, although so far no public evidence has been presented to confirm this.
The United States has also intensified its pressure against the Venezuelan president Nicolas Madurooffering 50 million dollars for his capture under accusations of drug trafficking. So far, despite the military deployment in Puerto Rico and in areas near Venezuela, President Trump has not made known what his specific plans are regarding Venezuela.
