This Tuesday (3), actress and influencer Evelin Camargo revealed that she had been diagnosed with a rare lymphoma associated with breast implants. The report was made on social media, after she noticed a sudden change in one of her breasts and sought specialized medical care.
This Tuesday (3), actress Evelin Camargo said she was diagnosed with a rare cancer associated with breast implants. According to her, the disease was identified after noticing a sudden increase in one of the breasts. Evelin also spoke about the risks linked to the prolonged use of silicone implants and highlighted the importance of medical monitoring over the years.
“I thought this video would be the best way to do this and tell you what’s happening in our lives. And it’s very difficult to talk about it, but just over a week ago I was diagnosed with anaplastic large cell lymphoma caused by a silicone implant”she said.
“It’s a lymphoma known as BIA-ALCL. It’s extremely rare, I had never heard of it, but this happened to me. So, just so you understand how it happened: in 2019 I had plastic breast reduction surgery, I had a very large breast. I had the reduction and put in a small silicone prosthesis, just to keep the shape”he completed.
At the end of December, Evelin noticed that one of her breasts had increased in size. When seeking medical attention, the main suspicion was that the prosthesis had ruptured, a common possibility in patients with implants: “Those who have been with me before saw that I had a sudden breast increase, overnight, my left breast almost tripled in size. And I went to the hospital, I was very nervous, initially everyone thought it was a ruptured prosthesis, right, that it had cracked. Then I had an MRI and we discovered that no, that it was intact.”
According to the actress, the presence of liquid around the prosthesis, known as late seroma, caught the attention of doctors. Evelin underwent a puncture to remove the liquid and specific laboratory tests. The diagnosis was confirmed after immunohistochemistry analysis, which identified breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL).
The influencer explained that the cancer was restricted to the capsule that surrounds the prosthesis and that the recommended treatment was the removal of the silicone: “The good news is that the treatment, most of the time, is the removal of the prosthesis. I had an exam on Saturday, and I was waiting for the results so I could come and talk to you, to find out what the degree is, right, they call it staging. And thank God the exam came out, and it really is only on the prosthesis, so my treatment will be explantation”.
Evelin took the moment to leave a warning to her followers: “But I decided to record this for you, so you can understand what is happening, but also to serve as a warning, not to make a horror like: ‘take off your implants, never put silicone implants again’. But for you to follow up, do an ultrasound”.

Rare disease
Despite manifesting itself in the breast, BIA-ALCL does not originate in the breast tissue. On the g1 portal, Breno Gusmão, member of the Medical Committee of the Brazilian Association of Lymphoma and Leukemia (Abrale), detailed the disease.
“Anaplastic large cell lymphoma associated with breast implants is a cancer of the lymphatic system. It does not originate in the breast, but ends up manifesting itself there, because the trigger is the presence of the prosthesis, which can cause chronic inflammation over time”pointed out the expert.
Classified as rare, BIA-ALCL has an estimated incidence of around one case for every 30,000 women with breast implants. The numbers vary according to factors such as type of prosthesis, time of use and country analyzed.
