Evan Ferguson: Injury Scare & Gasperini Praise – Latest Updates

by Archynetys Sports Desk

EVAN FERGUSON suffered a minor ankle injury in Roma’s 2-0 win over Stuttgart in the Europa League on Thursday night.

But it is not expected to keep him out of Sunday’s big Serie A encounter with AC Milan, though boss Gian Piero Gasperini looks set to drop him to the bench.

Ferguson suffered the knock to his left ankle during his role in the build-up to Niccolo Pisilli’s second goal in injury time that secured Roma the three points.

He was walking gingerly for the final minutes of the game – Roma had used all five substitutes – and headed straight for the tunnel at full-time.

But while Ferguson has suffered ankle injuries in the past, the Serie A club are confident that he will train normally ahead of Sunday’s meeting with second placed AC Milan.

Whether he starts though is unclear with boss Gasperini admitting that new signings Robinio Vaz from Marseille and Donyell Malen from Aston Villa will be involved.

But while Gasperini considers switching his forward options, he credited Ferguson’s form of late insisting he is now in tune with his Roma teammates.

He said: “In the last few games, his attitude has changed, and his condition has probably changed too.

“Compared to a few months ago, he’s a player who stays in the game, he seems to me to be a player who is present and not intangible like at the start of the season.”

Earlier this week it emerged that Premier League side Fulham are keen on Ferguson and Troy Parrott.

AZ Alkmaar striker Parrott is on the radar of a host of sides having netted 25 goals in 31 games for club and country during a red-hot campaign.

That is despite AZ struggling for form this season as they sit eighth in the Eredivisie table, which led to the dismissal of gaffer Maarten Martens this week.

Fulham are keen on the Dubliner while Wolves, Wolfsburg and Real Betis are all monitoring the 23-year-old’s progress.

NO RUSH

But Parrott will not be rushed into a switch. There were also options last summer after he scored 20 goals for AZ.

While Parrott is a man under the microscope, so too is Ferguson whose future on loan at Roma is in limbo.

While the Giallorossi have an option to buy him in May, they could also cancel his loan deal from Brighton this month. Seagulls boss Fabian Hurzeler has insisted he has a future there.

But Fulham are admirers, having enquired about taking him on loan before he joined West Ham last January.
