From this year, May 13 becomes a key date for European research: European Doctoral Day. This initiative aims to highlight the essential role of doctorates and doctors in building the scientific, economic and societal future of Europe.
Why celebrate European Doctorate Day?
Throughout Europe, where science and research constitute fundamental values, the European Doctoral Day is an opportunity to recognize the strategic importance of doctoral training. Doctors play a central role as actors of innovation, capable of supporting society in the face of rapid changes in the contemporary world and of actively contributing to the scientific, industrial, technological and economic future of Europe.
The Coordinating Committee of the European Doctoral Day ensures the coordination of communication around events as well as associated actions. It is made up of representatives of European networks and institutions supporting this initiative, such as EUA-CDE, the Coimbra Group, the PRIDE network, the LERU Doctoral Policy group, the French Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Space, Euraxess France, Eurodoc, the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action Alumni Association (MSCA Alumni Association), as well as other partners.
This day aims to:
- Encourage European and international students to engage in doctoral training;
- Strengthen the recognition of doctoral qualifications among employers, all sectors combined;
- Highlight the diversity of doctors’ professional backgrounds and their contribution to society.
As part of the European Doctoral Dayuniversities, doctoral schools, research organizations, scientific or student associations are invited to propose and organize certified events. Events can take different forms, face-to-face, online or in hybrid format, and are aimed at various audiences: doctoral students, doctors, researchers, students or the general public. All events must be completely free.
