Top European Union officials have issued warnings against further escalation in the Middle East after reports of an Israeli attack on Iran.
“The reports emerging from the Middle East are deeply alarming,” stated European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on X. “Europe urges all parties to exercise maximum restraint,de-escalate promptly and refrain from retaliation.”
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, after speaking with Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar, conveyed her readiness “to support any diplomatic efforts toward de-escalation.”
European Council President António Costa also voiced his concerns and called for restraint, writing on X that “A further dangerous escalation must be avoided, it would destabilise the whole region.”
