Financial Lifeline: EU Commits Over €1.5 Billion to support Palestinian Stability

In a move aimed at bolstering stability amidst renewed conflict between Israel and Hamas, the European Union has announced a meaningful financial aid package exceeding €1.5 billion for the Palestinian territories. This comprehensive support initiative is designed to address immediate needs and pave the way for long-term recovery and governance improvements.

Targeted Assistance: Rebuilding Gaza and Strengthening the West bank

The EU’s commitment includes a multi-faceted approach, allocating funds to various critical areas. A substantial portion,€620 million,will be provided as grants directly to the Palestinian Authority (PA).These grants are specifically earmarked to enhance the PA’s capacity to deliver essential services and meet the pressing needs of palestinians residing in the West Bank. The ultimate goal is to prepare the PA for a potential return to governance in Gaza when conditions permit.

Furthermore, approximately €576 million is designated for projects focused on economic revitalization across Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem. These projects aim to stimulate economic activity, create employment opportunities, and improve the overall living conditions for residents in these regions. In addition to grants, the European Investment Bank will provide €400 million in loans to support infrastructure growth and private sector growth.

This will strengthen the ability of the Palestinian Authority to meet the needs of the Palestinians on the West Bank and prepare it to return to Gaza’s management as soon as the conditions allow it.
