European Union declares its readiness to support any serious diplomatic process regarding the Iranian nuclear issue

Brussels – Saba :

Anwar Al-Aouni, the official spokesman for the European Commission, stated that Brussels is ready to support any serious diplomatic process regarding the Iranian nuclear issue.

According to the official Iranian news agency, Al-Awani said at a press conference in Brussels on Friday: “As the European Union, we are in close contact with the United States of America, both at the bilateral level and within the framework of the G7. The High Representative of the European Union has held several discussions with his counterparts in the region and called to prevent an escalation of tensions between the United States and Iran.”

He added: “We are in contact with all parties involved and stand ready to support any serious diplomatic process. I reiterate the need to give diplomacy a real chance. We continue to believe that a lasting solution to the Iranian nuclear issue can only be achieved through negotiations, that is, through diplomacy.”

The second round of indirect nuclear talks between Iran and the United States, brokered by the Sultanate of Oman, took place in Geneva last week. Progress has reportedly been made: both sides agreed on a set of guiding principles in this round, and the approach to the existing differences in order to develop the texts of a possible agreement has reached a new phase.
