Amazon Cancels “Etoile” After Six Weeks; FOX Axes “teh Cleaning Lady” & “Alert”
Amazon Prime Video has axed its ballet-themed series “Etoile” despite an initial two-season order. FOX cancels “The Cleaning Lady” and “Alert: Missing Persons Unit.”

In a surprising move, Amazon Prime Video has cancelled “Etoile,” a series centered around ballet, just six weeks after its release. The show, created by Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, the duo behind “Gilmore Girls” and “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” was initially greenlit with a two-season commitment. The series starred Luke Kirby and charlotte Gainsbourg.
“Etoile” garnered fairly positive reviews, achieving a score of 69/100 on Metacritic. All eight episodes where released together in late april, an uncommon strategy for Amazon, which typically opts for weekly releases.
Despite the concentrated release, “Etoile” failed to break into Nielsen’s Top 10 streaming charts.
Ballet is dead.
Adding to the wave of cancellations, FOX has ended “The Cleaning Lady” after four seasons and “Alert: Missing Persons Unit” after three. Both series were considered to be ‘on the bubble,’ facing uncertain futures.
The final episodes of both series aired within the past two weeks. They join “Rescue: Hi-Surf,” another FOX drama that was recently cancelled.
In contrast, FOX has granted four-season renewals to its animated mainstays: “The Simpsons,” “Bob’s Burgers,” and “Family Guy”.
