Tulip season has arrived, bringing the perfect opportunity to witness vibrant blooms and stunning spring landscapes at the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden, formerly known as the Model Floriculture Centre in Srinagar. Set to open on March 16, the garden is regarded as the largest tulip garden in Asia, spreading across nearly 30 hectares. (Image: Facebook)

The garden will open to visitors from March 16, with Omar Abdullah set to inaugurate it, according to officials. Mathoora Masoom, Director of Floriculture in Kashmir, said, “We will have more than 70 varieties of tulips this year. We have tried to improve the experience by adding selfie points and decorative planters so that visitors get a pleasant atmosphere.” (Image: Instagram)

This year, the garden will showcase nearly 1.5 million spring-blooming bulbs, featuring over 70 vibrant tulip varieties. Depending on weather conditions, these colourful blooms are expected to create a breathtaking floral spectacle for visitors for around 15 to 20 days. (Image: Facebook)

The tulip garden draws thousands of visitors each year, becoming one of Kashmir’s most popular spring attractions. In 2024, it welcomed over four lakh visitors, including tourists and locals, while more than 3.5 lakh people visited in 2023. However, the region’s tourism sector faced a serious setback last year after a tragic terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam in April, which claimed the lives of 26 people. (Image: Instagram)

Nestled in the foothills of the Zabarwan Range, the iconic Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden offers breathtaking views with the majestic Dal Lake forming a stunning backdrop. The garden was opened in 2007 as part of tourism initiatives by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir to promote floriculture and tourism in the Kashmir Valley. (Image: Instagram)

Built on sloping terrain in a terraced layout, the garden features seven beautifully designed levels. Apart from tulips, it is also home to several other vibrant flowers such as hyacinths, daffodils, and ranunculus. Every year, the Tulip Festival is held here to celebrate the arrival of spring and showcase the spectacular variety of blooms that brighten the Kashmir Valley. (Image: Instagram)

Best time to visit: Early mornings (before 9 am) or late afternoons are ideal, as the crowds are smaller and the lighting is perfect for enjoying the surroundings and taking photographs. (Image: Instagram)

Transport details: The garden is situated near Chashme Shahi, roughly 12–18 km from the city center and the airport in Srinagar. Private taxis and local buses are the most convenient ways to reach the location. (Image: Instagram)
