Storm Éowyn Recovery: Power and Water Supply Updates

Following the unprecedented impact of Storm Éowyn, significant recovery efforts are underway to restore essential services. ESB Networks, the national electricity supplier, has made substantial progress in restoring power to customers, addressing the widespread disruption caused by the storm.

Progress in Power Restoration

ESB Networks reports that they have restored power to 660,000 customers, down from a peak of 768,000. This achievement is testament to the resilience of the Irish electricity infrastructure and the dedicated efforts of recovery teams.

International support has strengthened the recovery process. Technicians from Austria, Finland, France, and Britain have traveled to Ireland to assist in the hardest-hit areas. Additional reinforcements from the Netherlands are expected to arrive soon, enhancing the available manpower.

The ESB anticipates that the majority of affected customers will have their power back by this Friday. For a smaller number, specifically up to 100,000 customers, a more gradual restoration process will occur throughout the following week.

Safety Precautions

While the efforts to restore power continue, the ESB strongly encourages public caution. Several instances of potentially dangerous incidents have been reported, where unknowing individuals have approached fallen electricity infrastructure in storm-impacted areas. Fallen debris can obscure hidden risks such as entangled wires in trees and branches.

The ESB advises, “Never, ever touch or approach fallen wires or damaged electricity network as they are live and extremely dangerous.” The public is urged to report any damage to electricity infrastructure by contacting the ESB on 1800 372 999.
