On January 8, 2026, ESA (European Space Agency) and German toy manufacturer Playmobil announced a new toy collection with the theme of Mars exploration, “ESA Space Range by PLAYMOBIL.” Sales began on January 9th in European countries, as well as Mexico and the United States.
ESA Space Range by PLAYMOBIL expands on the collaboration between ESA and Playmobil and is designed to provide children with an accessible way to experience real-world space exploration concepts such as planetary science, robotics and mission design.
4 sets incorporating elements of real missions
- Mars Research Rocket
Modular spacecraft with docking platform and crane arm. The soil sample storage function has also been reproduced. - Mars Exploration Rover
Equipped with a drill, camera, and sensors. The motif is the Rosalind Franklin rover, which is scheduled to land on Mars in 2030. - Space Glider
This aircraft is designed to fly over the surface of Mars and conduct geological surveys. - Astronaut with Robot
This set expresses the image of humans and robots working together to advance exploration.

ESA Space Range by PLAYMOBIL is said to be in line with ESA’s “Strategy 2040” policy. Anne-Sophie Bradelle, Head of ESA’s Communications Department, said the initiative aims to unlock Europe’s space ambitions through partnerships, innovation and education, and by making science missions “hands-on”, it aims to help young people identify with the future of space.
Bahri Kurter, CEO of Playmobil, said that by working closely with ESA, they are able to create toys that are scientifically based and have great play value, and that they want children to not only play with them, but also wonder, and imagine what it would be like to actually explore Mars.
