Healthcare Concerns Rise in Bormio District as Doctors Resign

The Bormio district is grappling with a shortage of primary care physicians after three resignations, prompting concerns about healthcare access for vulnerable residents.

Following recent events in Tirano, residents of the Bormio district are experiencing significant challenges related too access to primary care physicians. The area has seen the resignation of three doctors, reducing the number of available physicians from 11 to 8 in a short period.

“The concern is high and provincial health continues, day after day, to impoverish with very strong repercussions on citizens, elderly especially and fragile subjects”. These are the words of Michela Turcatti, of the provincial secretariat of the CGIL of Sondrio, who, along with the union of retirees in via Torelli, is raising concerns about healthcare in the province.

Temporary Solution

In response to the dwindling number of primary care physicians in the upper valley, the Social-Health Directorate of Asst Valtellina and Alto Lario has announced the activation of a temporary medical clinic at the Community house of Bormio. This is the second clinic of its kind, following the establishment of a similar clinic in tirano. “Interventions that, by their own definition, are temporary and certainly cannot represent the solution to a problem that we have been denouncing for some time -continued Turkish -. In the face of lack of doctors, specialists and general medicine, in the light of the now chronic deficiency of almost all the health, technical and socio -health figures, it is evident that they serve urgent and, we reiterate it, no longer postponable, interventions by the institutions, All the subjects who, for their own scope, must take responsibility for giving answers to those who rightly claim healthy, public, as an effective rights due for all and everyone and that is not only on paper “.

“The concern is high and provincial health continues, day after day, to impoverish with very strong repercussions on citizens, elderly especially and fragile subjects.”

More Attractiveness

Michela Turcatti suggests a potential solution: “One of the themes we have repeatedly raised concerns the need to report the province of Sondrio to a renewed attractiveness for the many and many professionals whose healthcare needs. And then: investing in young residents because they decide to train in this area and then remain on the territory to operate in the public and attract who comes from outside, being able to recognise a reality in the province of Sondrio own skills and growing – continues the component of the CGIL secretariat -. Almost impossible to find accommodation at lasting prices. This is why, already during the works that had seen us engaged, together with the plan offices, in identifying the priorities on the occasion of the drafting of the zone plans, that of the “home” had evidently assumed an urgency. To make worse further. Lombardy has been implemented to the detriment of public health in favor, however, of a private individual who in the meantime spreads and enriches himself “.

“Everything must be put in place to give the responses to the needs of a population which, unfortunately in a choral silence, witnesses a continuous crumbling of the public perimeter of provincial health, in the hospital and territorial field – concluded Michela Turcatti -, with a dramatic increase in subjects who, not being able to allow access to the private, renounce more and more care”.
