Enbridge Odour Investigation: Gas Ruled Out

by drbyos

SooToday reached out to the fire department and Enbridge Gas to determine where the strange smell was coming from today in the city.

“There have not been any city-wide calls or anything out of the ordinary,” said Aaron Gravelle, public education officer with Sault Fire Services.

Natasha Carr, communications advisor with Enbridge, said the company received several calls at 8 a.m. from customers who could smell an odour.

“Enbridge Gas is responding to each odour call and will do so until the situation is resolved. The cause of the odour is unknown at this time,” Carr said via email.

Carr confirmed that “natural gas is not the cause of the odours that have been investigated.”

“The issue the fire department has been managing in recent weeks is not related to the odour calls and odour in Sault Ste. Marie today,” she said.

Residents who smell gas are urged to call Enbridge Gas at 1-866-763-5427.

*Update at 1:09 p.m. included additional information from Enbridge Gas.

*Updated again at 11 p.m. to remove a comment from fire services that Carr said is incorrect and to add more information from Enbridge.
