Emirates Airlines purchases an additional 65 Boeing 777X aircraft
Boeing, listed on the New York Stock Exchange, announced on Monday a deal with Emirates Airlines, the world’s largest international airline, for a third order to purchase Boeing 777X aircraft, in order to enhance future expansion plans and meet the growing demand for travel. The new order for 65 777-9 passenger aircraft was announced during a signing ceremony held on the sidelines of the Dubai Air Show.
Emirates has long relied on the Boeing 777 as the main aircraft in its fleet to expand its global network, and it is one of the first customers to register to purchase the 777X, having placed two previous orders for a total of 205 aircraft.
The new order brings Emirates’ total 777X orders – including the 777-9 and 777-8 – to 270 aircraft, strengthening its position as the world’s largest 777X customer.
In this regard, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, President of Dubai Airports, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, said: “Emirates is currently the largest operator of Boeing 777 aircraft in the world, and today we continue to strengthen our commitment to the program by ordering an additional 65 Boeing 777-9 aircraft. This long-term commitment reflects the depth of our partnership with Boeing and the aviation industry in the United States.”
He added: “Each aircraft in our order has been carefully included in Emirates’ growth plan, which is in line with Dubai’s growth plans.”
Building on the huge success of the 777, the 777-9 will be the world’s largest twin-engine jet and will set new standards in efficiency and passenger experience. The 777-9 will reduce fuel consumption and emissions by 20 percent compared to the aircraft it replaces; Passengers will also have a more comfortable travel experience thanks to a wider and more spacious cabin, better humidity levels, a smoother ride and better natural lighting.
For her part, Stephanie Pope, CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, said: “We are proud that Emirates Airlines has renewed its confidence in the Boeing 777 “To deepen this strategic partnership, and for Emirates to continue flying Boeing aircraft for many years to come.”
Many major airlines around the world have chosen the 777X for its sturdy design and high capabilities that allow it to operate long-haul, large-capacity flights, including those that traverse harsh operating environments.
According to Boeing’s 2025 commercial market estimates, strong demand for wide-body aircraft in the Middle East is expected to continue, as the region is likely to need approximately 3,000 new aircraft of this type over the next two decades.
