Villa’s positive results were colored by negative actions from their manager and pillars, namely Unai Emery and Youri Tielemans. The two of them argued on the sidelines.
This incident started with Tielemans being pulled off by Emery in the final minutes of the match to be replaced by George Hemmings. Emery suddenly shouted and pushed Tielemans who was walking towards the edge of the field.
The Belgian midfielder tried to ward off Emery’s hand who was trying to push him. He did not shake hands with Emery on his way to the Villa bench.
After the match, Emery did not reveal the cause of his conflict with Tielemans. He only emphasized that he considered Tielemans like his son.
“He is my son,” said Emery regarding the conflict with Tielemans, quoted by the BBC.
Emery seemed furious with Tielemans who received a yellow card just before being replaced. Tielemans is Emery’s mainstay in midfield. He has played 21 matches in all competitions this season with one goal and five assists.
