Elkins Woman Arrested in Maryland on Drug Charges

A 53-year-old Elkins woman faces multiple drug charges after a traffic
stop in Cumberland, Maryland.
A routine traffic stop on Saturday led to the arrest of an Elkins, West
Virginia, woman who was allegedly found in posession of a significant
amount of methamphetamine, according to authorities in Maryland.
Kelly Jean Channell, 53, has been charged with possession with intent to distribute
controlled hazardous substances (CDS), possession of a large amount of
CDS, four counts of possession of CDS (excluding cannabis), and
possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to a press release from the
Cumberland Police Department, an officer initiated a traffic stop on Interstate 68 westbound at
approximately 8:17 p.m. on Saturday. The driver was identified as
Channell.
The release stated that police discovered
Channell had an outstanding arrest warrant issued by the federal
Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
“A police K-9 was utilized, which resulted in a positive alert for the
odor of drugs,” the release states.”A search of the vehicle was
conducted, and
Channell was found to be in possession of a large quantity of suspected
methamphetamine. Multiple other controlled dangerous substances were
located as well.”
Channell was arrested and taken to Central Booking, the release saeid. She is
currently being held at the
Allegany County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing, with the
warrant serving as a detainer.
