Munich – The number of sought -after jobs in the automotive industry with a focus on electromobility has decreased significantly. This is shown by evaluations of the German Institute for Economic Research (IFO) and the Job platform Indeed of around 1.7 million job advertisements of 2,400 German companies. “In June 2025, the number of vacancies in car companies that rely on electromobility was still almost 20 percent greater than for companies with a focus on burners. However, car companies with a focus on electromobility, so -called green companies, were still looking for twice as many positions at the end of 2023,” says Oliver Falck, head of the IFO center for innovation economics and digital transform. The development of work demand among the green jobs indicates that structural change slows down, says Falck.
The entire number of open jobs in the German auto industry broke up by two thirds by June 2025, compared to the maximum value in August 2023. This is the lowest level since Corona pandemic. “The situation among the automotive suppliers whose job advertisements have not recovered since the 2019 break -in has not recovered,” says Annina Hering, labor market expert at Indeed. In June 2025 there were about 82 percent less vacancies for suppliers than in May 2019.
