Electric Tractor Czech Republic: 40-Minute Charge Time

by Archynetys Economy Desk

The tractor has a range of 550-600 kilometers.

Another purely electric tractor with a long range is starting to roam the Czech roads. The logistics company GLS has included the Mercedes eActros 600 in its fleet.

The company states that this is one of the first purely electric trucks on Czech roads, and intends to continue purchasing electric vans and tractors. A tenth of the approx. 700 delivery vans in GLS colors already run on electricity.

Investing in modern technologies such as electric trucks is therefore one of our key priorities to decarbonise our operations while maintaining an economically sustainable operation,” said the director of GLS in the Czech Republic, Petr Pěcha.

Range up to 600 km

This year, the Mercedes eActros 600 was awarded the title of International Truck of the Year 2025. The car has a range of 550-600 kilometers per charge and can theoretically be charged from 0 to 100% in 40 minutes on the most powerful chargers.

Chargers with such performance are not yet widespread. For now, we expect to charge the tractor primarily in our own charger in the hub in Jihlava. There, we count on 300 kW charging, which will allow the tractor to be fully charged in about 2 hours“, Pěcha added.

The company expects to use the tractor even when traveling to Slovakia. The E-truck has a continuous output of 400 kW and a peak output of up to 600 kW.

The key parameters for us are the sufficient size of the cargo space, range, fast charging and available service. Development is moving forward quickly,” concluded Pěcha by listing the criteria for deciding on the deployment of e-trucks.

The company is not the only one in the Czech Republic betting on cargo electromobility. This September, for example, logistics company Metrans took delivery of six new Volvo FH Electric electric tractors.

They will be used for the delivery of containers that will arrive in the Czech Republic by rail. Six electric cars make up only a fraction of the fleet so far, Metrans uses around 500 trucks in the Czech Republic.

DB Schenker, Dachser and Gebrüder Weiss also deployed an electric tractor on their routes in the Czech Republic last year. In all these cases it was a Volvo FM Electric 4×2 model.

Under normal operating conditions, it has a battery capacity of 540kWh and a manufacturer-specified range of up to 300 km.
