This year, celebrity Sarwendah is among those adjusting to life without her usual domestic support.

Sarwendah’s Approach: Embracing Independence and Teamwork

Rather than relying on temporary, or infall, household help, Sarwendah is taking a different approach. She emphasizes fostering independence and teamwork within her family. Speaking in Depok, West Java, on Tuesday, Sarwendah explained her reasoning: I have never used Art Infal. Because it’s just like that…acquaintances with new people again, so it takes time. So I can’t be like an infal.

Instead,she’s turning to her children,encouraging them to take on more responsibilities around the house. This includes tasks like cleaning and even washing dishes, activities they already participate in to some extent.

Oh yeah, they have to clean up. They have to help washing dishes too…So help, then I say help to clean up. At least yes, each room.

Sarwendah’s approach reflects a growing trend among Indonesian families to involve children more actively in household chores. According to a recent study by the Indonesian Child Welfare Foundation, families who share household responsibilities report stronger bonds and improved communication. This shift also comes as many families are finding it increasingly difficult to afford full-time domestic help, with the average monthly salary for household assistants in Jakarta ranging from IDR 3,000,000 to IDR 5,000,000.

We usually just go home. Because they can be for the time alone…So those who have arranged themselves.

She allows her staff to arrange their leave, understanding that this time is crucial for them to reconnect with their loved ones and recharge.
