The State Secretary for Education, Research and Innovation, Martina Hirayama, visited South Korea for a science mission.
Switzerland’s cooperation with the country is to be strengthened in the research and innovation area. The three -day mission of State Secretary served to consolidate and expand the existing cooperation between Switzerland and South Korea in the areas of science, research and innovation, as the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SBFI) announced on Tuesday at the end of the trip.
She linked to a joint explanation that Federal Councilor Guy Parmelin and his South Korean counterpart signed in May 2023. In it, the two countries confirmed their will to further deepening their relationships in all research areas.
Hirayama met the South Korean Vice Minister of Science and Information and Communication Technology, Chang Yune Lee. Among other things, she also had talks with those responsible for the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy to the South Korean AI Chip initiative.
According to SBFI, South Korea is an important partner for Switzerland at various levels. In 2024, the trading volume reached a value of CHF 5.4 billion, with which the country remains the most important Asian trading partner in Switzerland.
