Shiki and the Androids’ Farewell

Shiki Granbell resides on Granbell,an abandoned theme park planet within the Sakura Cosmos,where he is the sole human among androids. Tutored by the “Demon King” Android Ziggy, Shiki learns to control gravity using Ether Gear. After Ziggy’s passing, content creators Rebecca Bluegarden and Happy arrive, befriending Shiki. However, the androids, in a surprising turn, imprison Rebecca and Happy, compelling Shiki to leave the planet with his new companions.

This unexpected behavior is revealed as a final act of friendship, fulfilling the Demon King’s last wish: for Shiki to explore the universe, believing he has a crucial role to play. Unaware of this sacrifice, Shiki remains grateful to the androids, cherishing them as unforgettable friends. Together, Shiki, Rebecca, and Happy journey to Blue Garden to register Shiki as an adventurer, enabling their quest across the cosmos to find Mother, the fabled goddess.

The narrative sparks curiosity about the planets they will discover and the characters they will encounter, with a strong emphasis on friendship, reminiscent of Fairy Tail.

Gameplay: Potential Unfulfilled?

The Edens zero demo introduces the story through a series of flash-forwards interspersed with spaceship battles, which can be disorienting. The gameplay involves navigating from destination marker to destination marker,engaging in combat along the way. Exploration is limited by blue barriers and unrewarding collection points,offering only basic ingredients and materials. Joining the Adventurer Guild in Blue Garden unlocks fetch quests that lack depth and fail to enrich the world or characters.

Combat encounters are frequent, but the fighting mechanics are simplistic. Players use a single attack button for combos, a finishing move, and character-specific special skills. While bosses offer a slight increase in challenge, the basic attack-dodge-repeat strategy remains effective. The Ether Gear upgrade system allows for skill enhancements, but limited points restrict experimentation. Post-demo exploration is possible, but the strength of the enemies makes it initially unappealing.
