Ecuador and Canada Advance Toward Free Trade Agreement

Ecuador and Canada have announced accelerated progress toward signing a Free
Trade Agreement (FTA).The proclamation followed a joint statement by both
nations during a visit from international delegations attending the
inauguration of Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa.
Ecuador’s Production Minister Luis Jaramillo and Canada’s Minister of Export
Promotion,Manner Sidhu,formalized their commitment by signing a joint
statement. The Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry emphasized the agreement’s
potential to boost both investments and trade between the two countries,
reinforcing the strengthening relationship between Ecuador and Canada.
Negotiations Concluded
The groundwork for this agreement was laid on February 2, when Ecuador and
Canada concluded negotiations. The agreement aims to provide Ecuador with
preferential access to Canada’s market of approximately 39.8 million
consumers.

The agreement is expected to create new opportunities for Ecuadorian
producers, exporters, and entrepreneurs. Key sectors poised to benefit
include floriculture, food, tuna, textiles, auto parts, ceramics, footwear,
wood, juices, cosmetics, and plastics.The agreement also seeks to foster
job creation and support the growth of small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
Opportunities for young People
The agreement aims to promote investments, tourism, cooperation, and
cultural exchanges. It also seeks to create opportunities for Ecuadorian
youth by fostering the development of professional services.
By including a chapter on MSMEs, the agreement recognizes the importance of
these enterprises as basic to Ecuador
